Nick DeMoss – Picture Perfect- (DeMoss Racing) - August 1, 2010 –
Another rain out on Friday night meant another Sunday race under the sun at English Creek Speedway. After finding an electrical problem after last weeks race, Nick was excited for this weeks race. When asked about the upcoming race, Nick commented, "We found a couple of wires that had rubbed through and were basically shutting the engine off. We got that repaired and can't wait to let this SUP motor perform like it is capable of. Our SKE kart has handled amazingly all year, and to have the combination working together this week, I think we have a good chance at getting back in victory lane.
Nick would start 3rd row inside in the first heat and would quickly jump into 3rd. Nick would try to get under Devin Kline, but would clip the birm and spin out. Nick would go to the tail and would pass David Herrmann for 4th place. Nick would also pass Cody Ambers but that pass would be called back as a caution would fly before they could complete a lap. Coming out of turn 4 after the restart, Nick would drive by Ambers for 3rd. While going into turn 1 Ambers would clip Nick's tail tank, which would turn him into the 2nd place car of Kline. Nick would once again be sent to the tail and would quickly jump into 2nd place using the high side. Nick would then set his sites on Tanner Edwards. Nick would catch Tanner and the two would race very close for about 3 laps. After taking the white flag, Nick would pull off the pass coming off of turn 2 and would go on to take the checkered flag. After the race Nick said, "Finally we got rid of the problem that has plagued us and the motor is able to run like it should. There wasn't much left at the top because of the fact we are basically racing during the day, but the little water after hot laps made it a pretty racey track! I dont think that will be there for the 2nd heat, so we will have to wait for mistakes and take advantage of them."
In the 2nd heat, Nick would start 2nd row inside. Nick would quickly gain the 2nd spot and set his sites on Herrmann. Nick would get a good run off of turn 4 on Herrmann and go to the top in turn 1. Nick would complete the pass and go on to a comfortable win. When asked about the 2nd heat, Nick commented, "I noticed while we were lining up there was just a little bit of moisture left in turn 1 where the sun hadn't dried out yet. I new it would only be there for 1 or 2 laps so I would only have a couple of chances to complete a pass up there. Luckily we were able to get it done on the first attempt. We are on the pole for the feature and will try to get win number 4.
In the feature the first lap would be very close as Edwards would hold Nick tight on the bottom. The two would race side by side through turns 1 and 2, as well as, turns 3 and 4. Nick would get a good run coming off of 4 and pull out in front. After getting in the racing groove, Nick would quickly open up a large lead until a caution would fly for a car that had spun. Nick would have a great restart and again open up a large lead, going on to get win number 4 on the season. "I can't express enough how well this SKE Kart handled and how strong this SUP Engine is! I want to thank all of my sponsor's for everything they have done this season as well. Without their products in my motor or on my car, it wouldn't be the same! I would also like to thank my Dad for all the help in the shop and at the track, as well as my girlfriend Alicia, for all of her support."
Nick will be back in action again on August 9-10, 2010 at English Creek Speedway for the Outlaw Dirt Kart Nationals.
